چکیده

A new method for constructing reduced-order models (ROM) of unsteady small-disturbance ows is presented. The reduced-order models are constructed using basis vectors determined from the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) of an ensemble of small-disturbance frequency-domain solutions. Each of the individual frequencydomain solutions is computed using an efŽ cient time-linearized ow solver. We show that reduced-order models can be constructed using just a handful of POD basis vectors, producing low-order but highly accurate models of the unsteady ow over a wide range of frequencies. We apply the POD/ROM technique to compute the unsteady aerodynamic and aeroelastic behavior of an isolated transonic airfoil and to a two-dimensional cascade of airfoils.

Proper Orthogonal Decomposition Extensions and Their Applications in Steady Aerodynamics

The development and application of model reduction techniques have been widely investigated for problems in unsteady aerodynamic systems, driven mainly by the need to develop effective economical computational models capturing as much flow physics as possible. Reduced-Order Nonlinear Unsteady Aerodynamic Modeling Using a Surrogate-Based Recurrence Framework

A reduced-order nonlinear unsteady aerodynamic modeling approach suitable for analyzing pitching/plunging airfoils subject to fixed or time-varying freestream Mach numbers is described. The reduced-order model uses kriging surrogates to account for flow nonlinearities and recurrence solutions to account for time-history effects associated with unsteadiness. The resulting surrogate-based recurre...

Extension Ability of Reduced Order Model of Unsteady Incompressible Flows Using a Combination of POD and Fourier Modes

In this article, an improved reduced order modelling approach, based on the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method, is presented. After projecting the governing equations of flow dynamics along the POD modes, a dynamical system was obtained. Normally, the classical reduced order models do not predict accurate time variations of flow variables due to some reasons. The response of the dynam...

Aerodynamic Data Reconstruction and Inverse Design Using Proper Orthogonal Decomposition

The application of proper orthogonal decomposition for incomplete (gappy) data for compressible external aerodynamic problems has been demonstrated successfully in this paper for the first time. Using this approach, it is possible to construct entire aerodynamic flowfields from the knowledge of computed aerodynamic flow data or measured flow data specified on the aerodynamic surface, thereby de...

Reduced-order modeling of transonic flows around an airfoil submitted to small deformations

Abstract A Reduced-Order Model (ROM) is developed for the prediction of unsteady transonic flows past an airfoil submitted to small deformations, at moderate Reynolds number. Considering a suitable state formulation as well as a consistent inner product, the Galerkin projection of the compressible flow Navier-Stokes equations, the High-Fidelity (HF) model, onto a low-dimensional basis determine...
